Our sweet baby girl is finally here!

Marin Rae Wiley was born at 6:05pm on Monday March 15, 2010! She weighed 7lbs 10oz and was 21.5 inches long.

My water broke at 11:30pm March 14 and we were so excited that this was finally it! We checked into the hospital about 2:45am after showering and getting a few last minute things done at the house. When we got there, I was only dilated to 1cm and was having some contractions, but not very strong ones. They had us walk the halls for a while to get things moving. About 5am they started me on a low dose of pitocin to help make my contractions stronger. By about 9am, I was in a lot of pain with each contraction and ready for my epidural. Once that was in, I felt much better and was able to relax a bit. Adam and I hadn't slept since the previous night and kept trying to catch a nap all day but were too excited and nervous to sleep. Around 4pm, I was dilated to 8cm. When the doctor checked me, he found that our little one was posterior (her head was facing the ceiling rather than the floor) which is not a favorable position for birth. He attempted to turn her, which she apparently did not like. She began having prolonged heart rate decelerations. After many attempts at getting her rate back up with me changing positions and wearing oxygen, etc, it was decided that for both my safety and hers, they needed to do a c-section. Within minutes we were out the door and in the OR. It was the scariest moment of mine and Adam's lives! Once we got back there, her heart rate stabilized so they decided to monitor me before doing anything. To make a long story short, it didn't take long for our little stinker to cause trouble again and we all decided to get her out via cesarean before it became an emergency.

Adam was able to sit near my head during the surgery which was very comforting. The anesthesiologists were great and made sure that I was comfortable and didn't feel a thing. A short time after they started cutting, they held up our precious baby girl for us to see. Adam and I started crying when we saw her; we were both so happy to have her here safe and healthy. Adam went over to watch them clean her up and check her out and then he brought her over to meet me.

We already had a name picked out for her and felt like it fit as soon as we saw her. We named her Marin after Marin County, CA (just north of San Francisco-- the location of some of our favorite places like the Marin Headlands and Muir Woods). We have already realized that people will be saying her name wrong all of her life, so to help everyone out it is pronounced muh-rin. Her middle name, Rae, is a short name for "Rachel".

Welcome to the world Marin!

They kept us in the hospital for 3 nights and we were finally able to go home on March 18. Adjusting to life as new parents has been exciting, interesting, and challenging, but we are so in love with our baby girl that it is all totally worth it :)

I love to snuggle with my girl!

She already has daddy wrapped around her little finger!

Tummy time.

We love to get out and go for walks!

STILL pregnant :(

This little one is certainly stubborn; I am 5 days overdue today. They scheduled me for induction Thursday March 18 but I am still crossing my fingers that she will decide to make her appearance before that. I have continued working this week to help pass the time but don't know if my body can take it any longer. I have become SO uncomfortable; can't sleep at night, can't move/walk very well, my back hurts, and my maternity clothes barely even fit anymore :( Thank goodness there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and hopefully it will come sooner rather than later!

Come out baby!

I am feeling so huge and uncomfortable at this point! There are 3 days until my due date and if baby doesn't come now I will be working 12 hour shifts for 2 of them :( If baby doesn't come by next Wednesday, then I will be working a few days next week too. Working is getting harder and harder and I don't want to do it anymore! I am ready to be done with this pregnancy and meet my baby girl! Everyone has advice about what worked to put them in labor and I feel like I have tried everything... pineapple, raspberry tea, walking, chocolate milkshakes, cleaning, spicy food, taking the stairs, etc. I have come to the conclusion that our little girl is only going to come when SHE wants to, even if it means a very disappointed mommy... Lets just hope that she doesn't make us wait much longer!

The Basement!

We are finally done with the basement (except the doors and trim... we are waiting until spring to finish those)! We are SO happy to be done with it and we think it looks great! We moved everything down there a couple weeks ago and are happy for the extra space.

And the waiting begins...

I am officially full term (37 weeks)! I am still having a great pregnancy but am starting to get VERY uncomfortable. We wouldn't mind a bit if our baby girl decided to make her appearance a little before her due date- 3 weeks sounds really far away :) We are so excited and I can tell that Adam will be a great dad! The hospital bags are packed, the baby's room is ready, and the carseat is installed! We have been busy as usual with working, getting everything ready for baby, and finishing the basement (it is pretty much done and has been for a few weeks- will post pics later)!

The nursery :)

In January, we had two baby showers. My friend Fallie and my sisters hosted one in the Twin Cities for me and Adam's mom hosted on for me in Lake City. It was so fun to see everyone and we received some great gifts for baby!

Stupid Mother Nature

It is 4:15am and I have been wide awake for over 2 hours now for no reason at all... many people say you don't sleep well during pregnancy because "it is mother nature's way of getting you ready for being awake with the baby all night." Well right now, I hate mother nature! I want to rest up as much as possible before baby arrives! I guess I might as well update the blog since I am up; I just apologize if it is a little disjointed or I fall asleep in the middle of the post...

In the past month, we have continued to be very busy between working, finishing the basement, and getting ready for baby. We ended up celebrating Christmas at home by ourselves because of the "wonderful" winter weather we had. I was sad not to see my family, but Adam and I enjoyed spending the day together.

The basement is moving right along and we can't wait to be done with it! At the beginning of the month, we had our carpet installed and have been working on painting. We are SO close to being done and it is looking great! We will post pics of the finished product when the everything is done. Soon we will be able to start moving stuff down to the basement which means we will finally be able to get the baby's room ready (just over a month and a half to go)!

Speaking of baby, she is growing right along and I am feeling HUGE! I am "enjoying" all of the normal pregnancy symptoms: low back pain, stretch marks, heartburn, frequent bathroom trips, sleepless nights, etc. Adam has been wonderful and supportive through it all; he will be a great dad :) We had another routine OB appointment yesterday and everything is good-- I measure right at 32 weeks. We attended our prenatal classes last weekend and feel a little more ready for the birth and to become parents. Baby is VERY active (which could be one reason I am up in the middle of the night); I have no idea how she can move that much in there when there is so little room! It is entertaining to feel and watch my belly move when she does! We finally ordered her crib and other furniture for the nursery and will be able to pick it up this weekend. I can't wait to set it up and get organized. This weekend I am also having 2 baby showers and it will be fun to see everyone and celebrate.

Anyway, I am going to attempt to go back to sleep now... wish me luck!
